Can a Root Canal Be Done in 1 Visit?

November 30, 2022 12:58 am

We understand that visiting our office for treatment may not be your favorite thing on your to-do list. However, we only recommend treatments that are beneficial to your oral health. If your tooth is infected, this may require root canal therapy.

What is a Root Canal?

Within your tooth is soft tissue known as the pulp. This pulp contains blood vessels, nerves, and tissues that are important during your tooth’s growth and development.

When the pulp of your tooth becomes infected or inflamed, a root canal is typically performed as the first measure to save your tooth. The infected pulp is removed, and the inside of the tooth is cleaned out and sealed shut during treatment.

How many visits does it take for a root canal?

Traditionally, root canal therapy takes two visits. In some cases, however, a root canal can be completed in one visit using advanced dental technology for a more efficient appointment. First, we will examine your tooth to determine the extent of the damage and infection. We will numb the affected area, remove the compromised pulp, clean the pulp chambers, and seal the area shut. We may then reinforce the tooth with a crown.

Signs You Need a Root Canal

The sooner you address a dental problem, the better your outcome will likely be. If you experience the following, we suggest visiting our team to determine if you need root canal treatment:

  • Tooth sensitivity
  • Swollen gums
  • A pimple on your gums
  • Tooth discoloration
  • Persistent tooth pain
  • Cracked tooth
