Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Orthodontic Treatment

May 31, 2021 5:41 pm

Orthodontic treatment is an investment of time and money. In this blog post, we provide some tips to help you get the most of your orthodontic treatment.

Follow the Rules

Please follow the guidelines we give you, whether it’s avoiding hard or sticky foods that can damage your braces or wearing your Invisalign aligners at least 20-22 hours a day and keeping your trays in a case or cleaning solution when out of your mouth. Straying from the “rules” could damage your appliance and derail the course of your treatment. Following our instructions will keep your treatment time to a minimum and allow you to achieve the results you desire.

Keep Up with Your Oral Hygiene

Maintain great oral hygiene throughout your orthodontic treatment so that your teeth will be both straight and healthy post-treatment. Poor oral hygiene can increase your risk of tooth decay and gum disease, stain your Invisalign aligners, and discolor your teeth.

Floss threaders, interdental brushes, an electric toothbrush, and a water flosser can make oral hygiene with braces feel like less of a burden.

Rinse your Invisalign aligners and brush your teeth before putting your trays back in your mouth after eating or drinking anything other than water.

Attend All Your Appointments

To make sure your treatment is progressing as planned, you’ll need to visit our office regularly for checkups. These appointments allow us to tweak your treatment as needed, answer any of your questions, and check that you’re following our instructions. Missed appointments will prolong your treatment and can even hinder your results. If you must reschedule, please let us know before the day of your appointment.
