Halloween & Fall Treats You Can Eat with Braces

October 15, 2021 7:58 pm

Is your kiddo bummed about missing out on Halloween candy because they have braces? We understand the disappointment they may feel. Luckily, there are some delicious, braces-friendly options that they can enjoy during this fun and spooky holiday!

  1. Plain Chocolate
  2. Soft, non-sticky chocolate is a good option for satisfying your child’s sweet tooth. It can be easily rinsed away if the chocolate doesn’t have a sticky caramel or filling that can get stuck in the brackets and wires.

  3. Soup
  4. As the weather cools down, soups and stews can warm your child’s belly and provide healthful nutrients. Plus, the softened ingredients are easy on their braces! There are a variety of kinds to suit your child’s flavor preferences. Some of our favorites include chili, cheesy cauliflower potato, minestrone, broccoli cheese, chicken poblano, and spicy black bean.

  5. Pumpin Pie Smoothie
  6. Pumpkin is a classic fall flavor and smoothies are simple to eat when you have braces. You can find several pumpkin smoothie recipes with a simple Google search. Most call for banana, pumpkin, and Greek yogurt, which provide beneficial fiber and essential vitamins and minerals.

  7. Fruit
  8. Fresh fruit is delicious and provides your child with nutrients that are important for their physical and mental development. Pair peaches with a little cream. Dip strawberries and sliced apples in low-sugar nut butters or dark chocolate. You can also make fun fruit arrangements on toothpicks or skewers.

Halloween & Fall Treats to Avoid

Any treats that can damage braces or get stuck behind and around them should be avoided. We recommend staying away:

  • Gum
  • Hard Candy (Jawbreakers, Jolly Ranchers & Lemonheads)
  • Popcorn Mixes
  • Sticky Candy (Sour Patch Straws, Caramel & Skittles)
  • Taffy
